The Farmers

John and Janet Butterfield moved to Chaptico in 1991 and started Hole In The Woods Farm.  Both being born and raised in  St. Mary’s County, John being raised in the 7th District and Janet in Charlotte Hall, they wanted to move to a quiet spot with lots of land to raise their family.  Beginning with a hand full of chickens and a few hogs they now have on average 50 head of cattle, hogs, and chickens, hay crops, and 3 farm locations within the county.  We have enjoyed starting the meat sales as it has given us the opportunity to meet new people and to provide a product we are proud of.

Andrea was raised on the farm.  She and her husband Charles help keep the farm working.  Ryker is one newest farm hands he loves to ride on the tractors.   You will often find Andrea working in the meat shop on Saturdays.  Many Saturdays you will also find some great cookies for sale at the farm made by Andrea.  Charles is always helping with maintaining the farm and working with the animals. 

Greg was also raised on the farm.  He and his wife, Tiffenie are a huge help with the farm.  Greg can often be found helping Johnny work the cattle, or any other project around the farm.  Tiffenie is always working in the background weather it is maintaining records, helping with a project, or being part of the IT department.  Elizabeth loves being around the animals and helping when she can.
